Founded in 1986 by Richard O'Brien as Checkerboard Drive-In Restaurants Inc., the company operates over 1,500 franchised locations in 30 countries. The first location was opened on June 19th of 1986 by Richard O'Brien; he wanted to provide an alternative for people who would not order food from fast food restaurants because they were too expensive or had bad service. Over time the business grew to include more than just one type of burger when it came out with its new line called "the Big Buford" which features two patties instead
